I think I'm the only one happy about the latest events regarding abortion. I remain resolved that abortion is not a form of birth control and the usual arguments for it (what if she was raped?) are not sufficient. They're usually exception cases, and like "duh!", no one is going to force a rape victim to carry the child of the rapist. However, the argument that a young pregnant girl should be allowed to have an abortion is a destructive one. If she is really young, she will think its okay to get pregnant and then get an abortion and she will not develop a healthy responsibility ethic, unless her parents/peers attempt to make it clear. This allows the guy involved to have the same careless attitude, which is ten times worse, because he won't think anything of going out and doing it again. We can't have our cake and eat it too. Abortion is not a birth control option. A rational human being will use protection, especially keeping HIV and AIDS in mind. There is no excuse for a woman of age to get an abortion unless she has been raped or told by a capable physician that she will die due to child birth, or the child will suffer from some horrible ailment their entire life. Naturally, exceptions occur. Abortion is still not a birth control option. Who will take care of these un-wanted children? The irresponsible parents will. People will think twice about their actions, if they see others being held responsible. For instance, I have not murdered anyone because I don't want lethal injection, nor do I want to spend my life in prison. There is nothing feministic about retaining the right to have an abortion. In fact, I'm embarrassed that some women see this as a struggle to have control over their bodies. The control comes at the moment you decided that if there are no forms of contraceptive available, you just don't get any that night (:P) The feminist fight for the rights to abortion is counteractive to the essence of what feminism is about. Unless, I'm mistaken, we had (and still have to) prove ourselves of making competent decisions in life. And abortion is just not a birth control option. Hold that thought.
