All I can think about is 50 Cent and how I've learned the art of ignoring ignorant people. I dig 50 because he has some great punchlines and super metaphors in his tunes. He says stuff like: I cooked coke in my grandfather's coffeepot. While this is nothing to brag about and he sort of makes that apparent in the particular song, I think it was hilarious that he wrote it down! He's arrogant too, taking on all the big dogs. Normally, I don't listen to hip hop or rap, but for some reason after hearing Po Little Rich Nigga, Thicker Than Water, Your Life is On Line I just can't seem to get him off my mind. It's feel-good music with irresponsible gangster lyrics. However, I'm not going to go out and shoot people or sell dope. What's even more funny, I believe this dude has actually lived this crap. I've been reading this Carnegie book about how to win and influence people. It's helped me to ignore a group of people at school that don't seem to realize we're over 25 and that high school mentality doesn't wear well on us. Let me rant about this one chic. She was funny for the first day of class in the first semester, because you rarely get to see anything like it. This woman is the walking stereotype of black woman with a chip on her shoulder. Bark! Bark! She can't even discuss a relatively non-emotional issue without pointing her fingers and addressing her listeners like they are on the witness stand. When I say pointing her fingers, I don't mean blaming people, I mean, she literally points her finger and does that head waving thing. I believe that in her mind if you ask her anything, she feels that you are trying to put her in the spotlight to make her feel or look bad. The truth is, last weekend, I had asked her a question about a phrase she used in regards to separatism. I honestly had no clue what she meant, because the phrase was new to me. Anyway, instead of clarifying it she took it as a cue to defend her statement. More head-waving, finger-wagging, and hand on the hip action. I felt like calling her an ignorant bitch, but I know that she is not ignorant and she is not a bitch. I feel that she has probably come from a past where people had walked over her and she decided to never let it happen again. I just hope she doesn't act like this during a job interview. Hehe. Because it makes her appear to be hostile and drops her audience's measure of her intellect lower than it really is. If I didn't know her, I'd think she was truly an ignorant bitch. Anyways, she is not the worst of the group. There is this one dude that gets great grades, but still wants to know what I get on a test. He makes sure to emphasize any of my shortcomings, publicly. I've never had a bad word to say about this dude. On the contrary, I've always commended him for being an outstanding student. But everytime he makes a point to emphasize my shortcomings his IQ drops another ten points. The other dude, I still can't figure out. I think he just dislikes me cause I am friends with this very arrogant guy who used to attend school with us. My friend John is arrogant, but he , in my opinion, owns the right to be arrogant. He would get A's on the algebra tests without studying a lick and I think this pissed the other dude off. Anyway, if this dude was intelligent he would not displace his hostility towards me. He should also stop competing with me and/or John, because the likelihood that we will end up vying for the exact same job are slim and none. I intend to work for myself for the better part of my latter years. The mysterious chic that hangs out with these two guys. I don't know this woman from a box of cheerios. I mention in one of my speeches during debate class that I followed the Dead for two summers. The next thing I know during the C++ class she's loudly talking about how dirty the deadheads were that came to her McDonalds or something. At least those dirty deadheads knew how not to be sheep and not hate on others just because their friends do. Loooooooooser, and she has to be over 32 years old to boot! Shoot me if I act like that even now at 27! Anyway, the bottomline, was not to character assasinate these people, but rather to point out that: I don't mention their names to other people. I don't normally point out their catty behavior to other people. I usually just show up at school, remain open and friendly, do my work and then go home. Somehow I have drawn attention to myself with this group of judges that have very clear glass walls for their houses. This Carnegie book is helping me not get 'ignant' at school! If I had not started reading it, I would have told each and everyone of them about themselves and dared them to say something back. If they had of replied to my disliking, I might of done something more 'ignant' that I won't discuss. :D Note: Dale Carnegie How to Win Friends & Influence People (ISBN:0-671-72365-0)
